WSBA Drug Policy Reform Efforts
At the recommendation of the King County Bar Association Drug Policy Project, the WSBA Board of Governors adopted a resolution calling for change in society's approach to drug and alcohol abuse. Although the WSBA asserts that criminal sanctions are a legitimate tool, the resolution acknowledges that despite years of resources devoted to the prosecution of drug crimes, the problems of drug and alcohol abuse have not been curbed and the laws have disproportionately impacted communities of color. It urges a long term commitment to meaningful treatment and prevention programs.
The KCBA Drug Policy Project is partnering with King County Medical Society, the Washington State Medical Association, the Washington State Bar Association and the Washington State Pharmacy Association to reform drug policy on many levels.
