Join us for a two-day, intensive training program conducted by regional and national faculty on youth development and representation. This program will integrate expert classroom instruction and hands-on small group workshops to train attendees on getting appointed to represent youth in dependency proceedings and understanding the youth's needs to help you provide them with your best advocacy.
The first day of the training will be classroom instruction on topics that include adolescent brain development, best practices and case strategy. We will focus on the challenges on getting appointed to represent youth in dependencies and understanding your clients' need and motivations.
The second day will be small group workshops structured around the shelter care hearing. If you are currently representing a youth, please bring your case to work from. If you do not have an open case, we will work from a hypothetical case.
Focus on the Child is a tuition free expense paid program targeted toward dependency practioners. In order to foster a cohesive atmosphere, we encourage attendees to take advantage of the offer for free on-site lodging and ask that you make every effort to attend the entire program.
