Training and CLEs


Each year WDA sponsors continuing legal education seminars and investigator training seminars on criminal defense issues. Training sessions are held throughout the state and are geared specifically to issues in public defense practice. Recent seminar topics have included:

  • Ethics 2006: Client Communication and the New Rules
  • DUIs in a Post Jensen World
  • Representing Non-Citizens on Domestic Violence and Violation of No Contact Orders
  • Defender Conference 2007: The Tough Cases, Public Defense at Its Most Challenging
  • Representing Youth in BECCA Cases

Annual Conference

WDA holds a conference every spring at a resort location in Washington. Members can earn CLE credits while enjoying a weekend with their family and friends. The 2006 Defender Conference was held at the Quinault Beach Resort near Ocean Shores, WA on April 23-24. 0n April 27 and 28, 2007 WDA held its annual multiday conference at Sun Mountain Resort in Winthrop, Washington.   Attendees received over 7 CLE credits, including 2 Ethics credits for full attendance at this conference.  As with all our CLEs, there is no registration fee for members to attend.
