Changes to the Local Law Enforcement Records Retention Schedule

The Local Records Committee approved the revised Local Law Enforcement Records Retention Schedule Version 6.0 at their meeting on July 29th.

In addition to many other changes, the revised schedule includes the reduced sixty day retention for booking and arrest area recordings.

Electronic copies are posted on the website.

The online database has been updated to reflect the approved changes.

Detailed revision guides are also available on the website.  Each document provides a summary of changes as well as a “crosswalk” for you to easily note:
•       New records series.
•       Discontinued records series.
•       Revisions to existing records series.

Several key changes to CORE records series revolve around:
•       Industrial insurance/workers’ compensation and accidents/incidents;
•       Contracts and agreements;
•       Travel Permission (Under Age 18);
•       Agency strategic plans; and,
•       Digitizing Superior Court records (RCW 36.23.065).

The Law Enforcement Records Retention Schedule has undergone a complete revision, with changes including:
•       Series titles, descriptions, retention periods and archival designations;
•       The removal of the “Secondary Copy” and “Remarks” columns;
•       The removal of all records series covered by CORE.
