WA Changes Execution Method
The Washington State Department of Corrections announced on March 3, 2010 that it will propose to switch from a 3-drug lethal injection "cocktail" to a one-drug method, mimicking the protocol now being used in Ohio's death penalty procedure. Click here for a link to the Seattle Times story.
The change in the lethal injection protocol comes despite the fact that a lawsuit challenging the former protocol is before the Washington Supreme Court. It is expected that the State will now move to dismiss that lawsuit and seek to go forward with executions. If you would like to take action, please consider sending a letter to the editor of your local paper. A new method of execution will do nothing to solve the many problems with our state's death penalty. For a list of talking points, and to read further about this issue, click here.
